Earth Day 2011

Today is Earth Day and as a caring citizen of the world I have joined the campaign.

Among other things, I have pledged to: Plant indigenous/native species on my property.

I have planned a new indigenous/native garden to provide food and habitat to support our native species. We had an influx of native birds in our garden this year, which has been delightful, and we would like to keep them coming back in the future. So, we have made a plan to introduce as many indigenous/native plants as we can to the property, beginning with a whole new garden. We’ve cleared out a section of overgrown, invasive, cypress trees along the back fence and have been busy redesigning that part of our yard to create a beautiful bush garden.

Our aim is to:

  • Plant more trees
  • Promote biodiversity
  • Increase the numbers of native animals in our area
  • Provide food for native species
  • Provide habitat for native species
  • Provide fodder for our new bees (coming soon!)

Stay tuned for more details.
